Why you should consider offering add-on services in your salon

Sometimes you can be at a loss as to how you can increase your profit in your salon, whether you are mobile, home-based or salon-based. Add-on services are a fantastic way to boost revenue, increase client loyalty and increase your client base.

Here's a few reasons to consider using add-on services:

We touched on it in the introduction but increased revenue and profit is a huge reason to utilise add-ons. Of course you should always be transparent with your client about the costs but giving them options of quick things they can add on to enhance their experience can mean that relatively low cost treatments can be charged for to create a high profit margin.

Improve client experience

You want your clients to keep coming back and to do that you need to provide a fantastic service that they likely won't get anywhere else. That's where the add-ons come in. Tailor recommendations for products or treatments to your client to make them feel valued as a customer. This will increase their satisfaction and loyalty as they will want to return to you. Offering add-ons that your clients will rave over can also bring in new clients via word-of-mouth recommendations.

Increasing the services you offer and tailoring the client's experience will not only show that you value your clients as individuals, but also make you stand out from your competitors. So those are just a few reasons why you should offer add-on services but which ones? To answer this, it is important to see the needs of your clients and see what services would work for your clients in your setting. There is no point in offering loads of add-ons but they are not relevant to any of your clients needs. Examples of things you could offer include deep conditioning hair treatments, scalp massages, nail treatments, aromatherapy and relaxation, make-up touch ups as well as many other individual treatments.

Another option is to build packages into your pricelist. This could be something like a colour and blow-dry and when booked as a package there could be a slight discount. Or you could offer special occasion packages such as a prom package where they get hair, make-up and nails done for a slightly reduced rate. Use time limited offers to create a sense of urgency such as seasonal or trend based services. For example, for the summer season only they could opt for a sun repair hair treatment or in winter add on a moisturising facial. 

There are so many ways to incorporate add-on services into your business and the benefits of doing so are numerous. Remember, they don't have to be time-consuming, complicated or expensive to have a massive impact on your profit margin.
